Episode Highlights

Sometimes it looks like it’s easier for younger kids to talk to a therapist however, I think it’s really the therapist being comfortable with the topic they are talking about and I think kids want to have those conversations with parents. I think kids are open to talking about grief, and open to talking about death, they just need to have an adult there that is comfortable having those conversations and makes the space to do that - whether it is a therapist or a parent.

Comforting a securely attached kid is going to feel very different from a child that has experienced instability

It is hard not to take it personally when you see a kid that is hurting and you offer to care for them and they push you away or they’re not reachable. Our systems as adults get activated and it’s really tricky!

Registered social worker, Diana Izard, joins the podcast to discuss trauma and mental health issues in kids and teens. We also cover anxiety, attachment therapy and more!

With gratitude and respect, I acknowledge the privilege I hold as a resident and settler of Treaty 7 Territory. These are the traditional lands of the Blackfoot Confederacy (the Siksika, Piikani and Kainai Nations), the Tsuut'ina Nation, Iyarhe Nakoda (Bearspaw, Wesley and Chiniki Nations) and Metis Nation of Alberta.
