WHAT CAN I EXPECT IN MY FIRST SESSION?

CHILD AND YOUTH

2-4 parenting sessions are required for Child and Family Counselling sessions to obtain relevant family history, discuss your concerns and finetune our treatment approach before including your child.

For Teen Counselling, an initial parenting session is optional and can be replaced with a joint parent/child appointment. This option allows us time to discuss you and your teen's concerns together, as well as meet privately with your teen during the first appointment.

ADULT INDIVIDUALS

We will explore your family history and background, the concerns that brought you to counselling as well as your strengths. Understanding your family and cultural background is important to be able to identify the resources and strengths you have access to on your healing journey. I use moment-to-moment tracking of the emotions and physical sensations you experience in the session to help raise awareness of, and process the feelings that arise during your appointment. For example, you might be asked to identify where you notice sensations in your body and whether these sensations change over time.

WHAT IS ACCELERATED EXPERIENTIAL DYNAMIC PSYCHOTHERAPY?

AEDP is a cutting edge transformational-oriented model of therapy that emphasizes healing and connection while processing the difficult emotional and relational experiences that hold us back. The key to this approach is undoing aloneness to co-create a therapeutic relationship where one can experience a safe haven and secure base. AEDP has roots in and resonances with many disciplines — among them interpersonal neurobiology, attachment theory, emotion theory and affective neuroscience, body-focused approaches, and last but not least, transformational studies. This mind-body approach is effective for a broad range of concerns including trauma, loss, addictions, mood and anxiety disorders.

HOW DO I ACCESS MY ONLINE APPOINTMENT?

You will receive a secure link to access your video session from your web browser on PC or Android. Simply click and go! If joining from an iPhone, use Safari web browser. You are encouraged to join from a private space. Earbuds or headphones are an asset.
